Kenny had a bottle
of soda sweet and fine,
a hard-to-find glass bottle
that made it look like wine.
We laughed each time my little boy
watched him pop the cap.
And now with Kenny gone beyond,
I smile looking back.
I buy myself a bottle
of soda for old times;
My son remembers opening
A bottle of that kind.
My heart can hear the message,
A little bitter-sweet:
Though Kenny may have gone away,
One day beyond, we’ll meet.
And there may be a bottle
of soda sweet and fine,
A new and shining bottle
Of heaven’s perfect wine.

A great memory with that bottle… actually it made me think how much is canned these days… a bottled soda would be fun.
I like the way this poem circles back around to end where it began.
A lovely memorium of your Kenny. Touching and nostalgic.
A very sweet memory to keep ~ The rhyming verses are a delight to read ~
That was a nice remembrance of Kenny.
Divine rhyme!
Poignant and a clever take on message in a bottle.
Thank you for sharing with us this beautiful memory, Dr Howe. A toast to Kenny from me.
A beautiful poem of food memories and of hope of a future reunion.
