You want to shoot foxes
and don’t care about rescuing old, tired donkeys.
You see starving children on TV,
and your heart doesn’t skip a beat.
But when that person sings,
you know who I mean,
your heart opens,
and you get a little teary-eyed.
It takes all kinds
of people and animals
to create this
world of variety we call home!
Even though you want to shoot foxes
and don’t care about rescuing old, tired donkeys,
you’re one of the good ones!
And I love you for it!

For NaPoWriMo day 3, I’m reminded there’s all manner of good in this world! Just because people care about different things than we do, doesn’t make them lesser people. You never know… Sometimes we can even learn to love them! π

Not what goes into the mouth defiles a man; but what comes out of the mouth, this defiles a man.β
Then Peter answered and said to Him, βExplain this parable to us.β
So Jesus said, βAre you also still without understanding? Do you not yet understand that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and is eliminated? But those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and they defile a man.
–Matthew 15:11, 15-18 (NKJV)
Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You.
–Psalm 119:11 (NKJV)
and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
–Philippians 4:7 (NKJV)
Guard Your Heart – Lyrics
Instrument: Tempo – Seagull Excursion Folk Acoustic Guitar
1. The heart is a place where we hide things.
It uses the mouth to speak.
And sooner or later it’s going to tell
Every secret that we keep.
Refrain:
2. It isn’t the things that we’re eating
Or those we have heard and seen,
But all the hard feelings we push down inside
Are destroying you and me.
Refrain:
3. Be mindful of what you are saying,
The words that you think and speak,
For every word has the power to hurt
Or to plant a loving seed.
Refrain: (Twice)
The heart is a place where we hide things.
Refrain:
[So] hide, hide within you the word of life.
And guard, guard your heart in the peace of Christ.
O this poem is hellishly funny,
And so is the state of my money.
I tell you I’m broke,
And it isn’t a joke,
But it costs not a thing to be sunny! π

Happy April Fools! No pranks today, but too late I remembered NaPoWriMo (National Poetry Writing Month) and wasn’t going to miss the first day… Especially given another great Limerick
opportunity! May my offerings only improve from now on!
