The heirloom tomatoes are all green with envy.
The bright fireflies suddenly act unfriendly.
The lap swim has gone off the deep end for now,
And Summer takes on a patina somehow.
Do I have to tell you? It happens each year!
One season flows into another, it’s clear.
You pull out a wishbone and think it away,
But no good! The turning is yearning to stay!

For Linda Kruschke’s
Paint Chip Poetry Prompt #33, From Best to Worst.
Though I didn’t really get the theme right, I couldn’t resist writing this poem!
I love your poem, though I don’t love the reminder that summer will end. It hits me hard every year. I’m never ready for fall, because fall turns to winter, which I’d happily skip.
Thanks, Linda. I’d happily skip Winter myself. 😱
This is beautiful and inspiring to me.
Thank you, Kally! 😎
I really like this, especially, “Summer takes on a patina somehow.”
