Sunset Secret

The sky was aflame with the sun’s reflection.

“What’s wrong?” he asked.

“Nothing,” she said, turning away.

“C’mon, you can tell me,” he replied gently.

“Oh, no,” she thought. “I’m no amateur! If I tell you, this fragile house of cards will come crashing down! Because, yes, honey, you do snore!”

Changes

I used to have money;
I had so much time.
And when in my space,
It was quiet, sublime!

He thought when we married,
O it would be smooth!
But the changes keep coming
And changing my groove.

I used to sit calmly
To think or to sing
Or listen to birds
Do their busy-bird things.

I try to be happy;
I try to be kind,
But the stresses spill over…
Am I losing my mind?

I really don’t know
Where this marriage will lead.
But one thing’s for sure:
Change is still guaranteed!

Invasion

Once I dreamt I was the moon, bright and full, watching over the June night sky and everyone beneath me. I’ve seen a lot of things in my time, but nothing could prepare me for what I witnessed then.

I gazed upon a woman who wrote all night. Poems, songs, journal entries… But she was neither writing nor sleeping. Instead, she lay in bed, considering a new relationship with a man far away. He was a writer, too, but they had never met. She marveled at how he could invade her heart and home with just the touch of his words. His poem even said he loved her. But how would this invasion change her life?

Suddenly, I awoke. No, I was not the moon. I was the woman in the dream, still wondering how your invasion would change my life.

Now I know!

The Lost Muse

I used to play my instruments and sing.
I wrote a song each week for several years.
The furthest I get now is just to think
And wonder why, which always turns to tears.
The feelings in my life are sad but clear,
The circumstances changed, but for the best?
There’s benefit in breaks and needed rest;
I feel the choice was taken and not made.
I’ve lost my songful spirit, now depressed.
I pray the Muses hasten to my aid!

The Trail Inside

(Ukulele, written 2017)

On the Side of Love

We’ve been through trouble, turmoil, pain and woe.
Now here we are, and here is where we’ll stay.
As feelings and emotions ebb and flow,
Whatever comes, our love remains the same.
Life wraps us, unsuspecting in its game;
We try and learn to keep it in its place.
Our mirror must reflect love’s gentle face,
Regardless of the chaos all around.
We’re learning to create a sacred space,
Where e’er and always, love can still be found.
