The Wishing Coin

I tumbled down the wishing well
Like a child’s hope-filled coin.
My heart looked for something
I couldn’t find in earth time.

As I fell I waited,
Watched, and wondered,
Wanting to know what was in store.
Would my wish come true?

Bang!
I hit rock bottom
In a world all its own.
I didn’t even recognize myself…

For I landed
Or continued my journey
Flowing in a cascade of dreams
I did not call for.

I must apologize
For my lack of rhyme and reason.
But if you wish for love, beware…
You just might get it!

I Didn’t Know

I didn’t know the meaning of forever,
Until you took me deep into your heart.
I could accept us being here together,
But thought for sure one day our ways would part.
Forever was a place I couldn’t go,
For in my mind I simply didn’t know.

I didn’t know the meaning of a love song,
Until you sang to me without the words.
I could accept the melody and music,
But disbelieved the voice my spirit heard.
A love song was a place I couldn’t go,
For in my mind I simply didn’t know.

I didn’t know the meaning of connection,
Until I drifted into it one day.
It took me from a world of imperfection
To all I asked, to seek, to find, to pray.
Connection was a place I couldn’t go,
Until my mind was calm enough to know.

Happy National/Global Poetry Writing Month (NaGloPoWriMo)! I won’t be posting every day, but any contribution is a good one.

Spiked

A spike in the weather
Brought raindrops in floods.
We ventured together,
Outpacing the mud.

All dressed up
With somewhere to go,
Our wedding was imminent,
Come rain, sleet or snow.

So onward we ventured
With faces aglow:
Outshining the downpour,
A bless-ed rainbow!

Yes, there really was a rainbow on our wedding day, March 15, 2019! And the song we chose months ahead of time was “Somewhere over the Rainbow.” It was a blessed and beautiful day! ❤

Living Water

Before we met, I sipped your words
Like lemonade in Summer bright;
Then savored them as chocolate hot,
Indulging every Winter night.
I drank you in; you filled my cup
With satisfying sweetest brew;
My dehydrated mind and soul
Fulfilled and nourished, sipping you.

The Melting Kiss

When I was in first grade,
I got a Valentine
From one sweet little boy.
Inside it said, “Be mine.”
I couldn’t be his own
And never knew the bliss,
Because upon that card,
There oozed a melted kiss…

As many years went by,
I married and divorced,
My biggest pride and joy,
Our precious son, of course.
When he was small I kept
Each Valentine of his,
And as a mommy does,
I melted with his kiss.

Now after several years,
Romance and friendship shine.
As only Freddy could,
He asked me, “Please be mine.”
My one and true reply,
A tearful, happy YES!
And I am sure he knows,
I melt with every kiss.

Coffee, Sweet

You were not my cup of tea,
But steeped and permeated me;
You percolated every dream
And incubated love for me.

Your sweet caffeine, my sugared best;
Your creamy voice provided rest.
Though you were not my cup of tea,
You’re coffee energizing me.

Nature Song (Sonnet)

For Freddy, my soon-to-be husband.

Your laughter is a river flowing strong;
It rolls and rumbles, nourishing its path.
And in your voice I hear a living song;
As seasons come and go, the music lasts.

A mountain tall and firm, that is your faith.
Whatever trials on earth, you can’t be moved.
When lost in storms I cannot find my way,
Your rock of steady standing gets me through.

The Lord has given gifts to one and all,
But I can’t see the forest for the trees.
When brambles trip me up and then I fall,
You lift my spirit with a song to sing.

Eternal song of nature and His love,
I heard it when He sent you from above.

Four Pillars

For my best friend, partner, and spiritual support with love.

When you first pledged your love to me,
You offered me your hands and feet,
The good you have and good you are,
Four pillars I am grateful for.

The strength of character you show
Is more to me than earthly gold.
Whatever trials come our way,
You’re standing strong through night and day.

And peace is your foundation firm;
When I’m unsteady, you return.
You never falter, never stray,
But walk beside me all the way.

A hand of joy you seek to share,
And I find beauty everywhere.
When troubles come as troubles will,
My anxious heart you always fill.

Your hand of love is kind and true;
In gratitude I look to you.
O may I learn to give as much –
A word, a prayer, a tender touch.

For these four pillars, pure and sweet,
I thank you for your pledge to me.
Your strength and peace, your joy and love,
God sent to me from heav’n above.

In the Closet

A sport coat, corduroy and navy blue,
Suspended in his closet for that day,
With gray pants and a crisp white shirt, all new,
And dark pink tie – the man is unafraid.

Her dress, dark pink as well, now hangs in wait,
And small white boots lay in the box to rest.
A glass pearl necklace ready for the date,
The navy blue that complements him best.

Her petticoat, a circle white and wide,
Puffs out the picture of this groom and bride. ❤
