Thrilling with sadness
Unnaturally cruel
What a “human” trait!

O let us dance and let us sing
In praise of beauty that is Spring!
As flowers bloom and songbirds sing,
There’s brand new life in everything!
We’re not exempt; we’re not left out
Of all the giving Spring’s about!
We can transform, without a doubt:
Just look within and let it out!
Let in the new! The old, release.
Let go of fear, allowing peace.
In harmony replace dis-ease
And safety calm anxieties.
We’re not alone—we have a guide,
The voice of wisdom deep inside,
The One who our true needs provides
And gives us heartbeat, breath and life!
So let us dance and let us sing
In praise of beauty that is Spring!
As flowers bloom and songbirds sing,
There’s brand new life in everything!

This poem started with just 4 lines. But as I wrote, it expanded. After I went to bed last night, glad to have written my NaPoWriMo contribution for the day, it occurred to me it would make a great song! And the music was there, so I captured it on my double strung harp while it was still fresh in my mind. When Eugi left a comment saying the poem could be a song, I knew I had to record it and include the audio here. So, here it is! Thank you very much, Eugi!
Earth
Our home
Our mother
Sustaining life
Helping us survive
O let us do the same
Offering free compassion
To our mother and her children
People, plants, animals, resources
For how long can we go on without love?
We mourn the old forms
Not seeing brilliant new life
Rising from ashes
Rising from ashes
Never failing to get up
Always try again
Always try again
Each moment another chance
To strengthen our wings
To strengthen our wings
Ever soaring toward our dreams
Rising from ashes

Changing atmosphere…
Is it better? Is it worse?
Breezes whisper signs.
Spider spinning gauze
Delicate, strong looking glass
Reflecting our hope.
Pilgrims progress faithfully
Through incense of illusion.

and Linda Kruschke’s Metonymy and Paint Chips Prompt. I chose gauze/spider web, Plymouth Rock/pilgrims, and sagebrush/incense. I also used looking glass, but not as Metonymy. You’ll find the prompt here:
A bee’s life is valid in itself.
We could learn so much, if we tried!
Living in community,
Taking just what they need,
Giving all they can!
We miss the mark
Looking out
For MY
Needs…

Here are 2 musical settings for the hymn, “All Things Bright and Beautiful.” If you live in the United States, you’re probably most familiar with the first one, composed by William Monk. If you live in the United Kingdom, you probably know “Royal Oak,” the traditional melody for the second setting.
I hope you enjoy hearing these tunes on Oriole (soprano) and alto recorder (which plays the verses of “Royal Oak”), with ukulele accompaniment!
Sometimes I’m trapped beneath the waves,
Drowned out by loud and senseless noise.
Where is my hope? Where are my joys?
Is there a heart, a hand to save?
The brightness breaks in palest shades;
I miss the subtle change it brings.
The waves roll on, but softly sing
That feelings and emotions flow,
None meant to last! I must let go
And ride each wave to set me free!
