The Trouble with Spring

The trouble with Spring
Is new things are born;
The birthing is painful
And leaves you forlorn.

The trouble with Spring
Is all of the flames
Destroying the old
So ashes remain.

The trouble with Spring
Arrives as a flood;
It carries you downstream
All covered in mud.

The trouble with Spring
Is breezes and gales
That capsize your boat
And tear up the sails.

The trouble with Spring
Is easy to find.
The question is whether
We let it inside!

The trouble with Spring
Just might be a gift,
A rainbow of color
To bless and to lift.

The trouble with Spring,
The ebb and the flow,
Is moving us onward
To more than we know.

The trouble with Spring
May leave you forlorn.
The birth may be painful,
But new things are born!

Drama Song

A little humor and Celtic flavor for St. Patrick’s Day. πŸ™‚ Those who are already spiritually oriented will be nodding their heads. Others will be going, “Huh?” And having the seed planted.

Drama Song – Lyrics

Instrument: Walnut Concert Flea Ukulele

Refrain:
[and] I’m sorry I’ve taken the drama out of love.
If you want it back, go ask somebody else.

1. Not like lightning, but a gradual change,
I realized I’d gotten past games people play.
No more, “Well, if you loved me, you’d please me, my dear.”
I’m ready for Love unconditioned and clear.
Refrain:

2. If I do or I don’t, it won’t change what is.
It’s not indigestion or emotional fizz.
There’s no infatuation or flirting or nerves.
I’m coming to Love without stress and reserves.
Refrain:

3. So if you’ve got it bad, then keep movin’ on.
There’s someone else out there for you to cling on.
As for me, myself, it’s the Spirit of Truth
That quickens the Love I dismissed in my youth.
Refrain: (Twice)

Woman

I wrote this song in early 2011, while exploring Goddess-centered spirituality. I share it here in honor of International Women’s Day – but more than this, honoring all people and our Great Creator! It’s time we see our gender as a blessing and not a difference, curse, crutch, or hindrance! This applies to our personal gender and everyone else’s. May we truly know, and thus experience, that we are indeed all One, regardless of physical form!

Woman – Lyrics

Instrument: soprano Flea ukulele

Note: This was recorded outside, so I apologize for the background noise. And this is not my usual ukulele tuning – this is reentrant/high G, and I usually play linear/low G. πŸ™‚

1. Woman so soft
Woman so sweet
Woman so gentle
Woman so strong
Woman of love
Woman of peace
Woman complete
Sing your beautiful song!

2. Woman of earth
Woman of air
Woman of water
Woman of fire
Woman of birth
Woman of life
Woman of laughter
Now express your desire!

3. Woman in body
Woman in mind
Woman in spirit
Open your eyes!
Know who you are
Claim who you’ve been
For you will be
All that you can let in!

Repeat 1.

Sing your beautiful song! (3x total)

Miracle

This song was written for a child’s welcoming ceremony. In other traditions and religions, this would be a baptism, christening, baby naming, Wiccaning, etc. It acknowledges the child’s God-purpose and the parents’ and others’ support of that purpose–whatever it may be.

We are all someone’s child, and children of God; so Miracle is for everyone!

And to Aaron, happy birthday! May God continue to bless you, and others through you!

Miracle – Lyrics

Instrument: Lanikai LU21C concert ukulele (Aaron’s uke)

1. You are a miracle
Of laughter and love.
You are a miracle
Of Spirit above.
You have a purpose and a path,
And we affirm our openness to that.

2. You are a miracle,
A precious gift of God.
You are a miracle
That we are blessed to love.
You are one body, mind and soul,
And we affirm together we will grow.

3. You are a miracle
Of possibility.
You are a miracle;
Be the change you want to see.
We travel beside you, but the path is yours alone.
We watch you and learn from you, the greatness of The One.

4. ‘Cause we are miracles
Of laughter and love.
We are all miracles
Of One Spirit above.
We have a purpose and a path,
And we affirm our gratitude for that

‘Cause we are miracles
Miracles
Miracles!

Children

These are little ones before they become “adult” and prone to judgment, prejudice, hate, narrow-mindedness–need I go on? You know, all the things they learn from the rest of us…

Instead of conforming them to our molds and “raising good kids,” wouldn’t it be better for all of us, and the world, if we conformed more to their unadulterated standards?

Children have a beauty
That’s within them; it is true.
Children have a beauty
And an innocence that’s pure.

Children love all people,
And they bring great joy and peace.
Children love all people,
And they teach us many things.

Children are quite special,
And they fill our hearts with love.
Children are quite special,
And we thank the Lord above.

I love little children,
For they’re gentle, good, and kind.
I love little children;
They delight my heart and mind.

In that hour the disciples came to Jesus, saying, β€œWho then is greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven?”

Jesus called a little child to himself, and set him in the middle of them, and said, β€œMost certainly I tell you, unless you turn, and become as little children, you will in no way enter into the Kingdom of Heaven. Whoever therefore humbles himself as this little child, the same is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven.
–Matthew 18:1-4

Then little children were brought to him, that he should lay his hands on them and pray; and the disciples rebuked them. But Jesus said, β€œAllow the little children, and don’t forbid them to come to me; for the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to ones like these.” He laid his hands on them, and departed from there.
–Matthew 19:13-15

Wedding Prayer – More than Ceremony

Contrary to its title, this isn’t a wedding song. πŸ˜€ Or it isn’t just a wedding song. It’s for anyone in a loving, intimate, romantic relationship. And should you happen to extend that to a wedding or union ceremony, this song would fit in. But ceremony itself does not create love! It must already exist and be acknowledged within, and between people. No imitation or appearance alone will do. It is with true love in mind that I share this song.

Wedding Prayer – Lyrics

Instrument: Luna HTC-Koa ukulele (concert, reentrant)

1. Oh as I focus on you now,
May I make no earthly vow
That keeps your spirit at bay.
And as I dwell within your life,
May I be a shining light
That stands behind
In peace of mind
To let you go your way.
And
Refrain:

2. So as I see the good in you,
May I to us both be true
And know we’re already one.
And as I live the best I can,
May God guide my heart and hands.
I lift them up
To bless this cup
And pray, “Thy will be done.”
And
Refrain: (Twice)

When I say, “I love you,”
May it warm the heart of you.

Refrain:
When I take your hand,
May it be a gentle touch.
And when I say your name,
May a little be so much.
When I kiss you or embrace you,
May I wrap you in the Truth.
And when I say, “I love you,”
May it warm the heart of you.

Self-love: Can it Last?

If Real and if True
And shining within,
Then Love for yourself
Is blessing and bliss!

If on the outside
For all that you do
And how you appear,
That love isn’t True.

If all that you see
Is what’s in your mind;
If, seeking self-love,
That’s all you can find,

Then seek in the space,
The Voice True and small,
Transcending your thoughts,
Beyond, to the All.

The Love from the One,
The Source of all Life,
This infinite flow
Is your Divine right!

This Love for yourself
And All that You are
Is safe and secure,
Eternal, by far.

It’s Real and it’s True
And shining within;
This Love for your Self
Is blessing and bliss!

Friendship – Round

I always wanted to write a round–a song like “Row, Row, Row Your Boat” that can be sung by staggering when each singer or group starts. In the early 2000’s I wrote this, simple lyrics and melody that work as a (3-part) round. Be sure to listen to the audio; otherwise it just seems BLAH. πŸ™‚

Oh, and if you try singing this, please, breathe deeply!

Friendship – Lyrics

Beautiful is our great friendship!
It is such a priceless treasure!
What a pure, long-lasting friendship
Between you and me!

The Key

Because the essence of Music, Love, and God is The One.

In any key of music
the first note of the scale
is 1.

In any key of music
the last note of the scale
is 1.

A perfect octave
is the distance
from 1 to the next 1.

Same pitch, same name
just higher or lower
and still the 1.

That’s why it’s called perfect
the 1 is the beginning
and the end.

In any key of music
the real key is
oneness.

The true key is
wholeness
completeness.

The 1 returns to itself
alpha and omega
beginning and end.

In any key of music
the 1
is first and last,

root and octave,
1 and 8,
in the image of God.

And the key
is oneness
in his Presence.

Love – The Simplest of Songs

I wrote this in 2003, and it still rings true for me. In honor of
February and its vibrations of love,
this seemed like a great song to share.

On a side note, purple has gradually become one of my favorite colors. I won’t go into why and how… Suffice it to say that, thankfully, people do change, and do learn to embrace more than we used to! ❀

Love – Lyrics

Instrument: 76-key Casio keyboard (model unknown)

1. Once I searched for a Love that would never die;
True faithfulness on which I could rely.
OOO
Refrain:

2. I was lonely but had, o so much to share;
So, I hoped and I prayed for One who would care.
OOO
Refrain: (3 times)

Refrain:
Love transcends all borders and fills the empty!
I longed so for this and the joy that it brings,
And You have shown me a Love like this.
