Upward Climb

We took leave sadly
With bags chock-full of sweetest memories
Of loving madly
And sure that you and I were meant to be.
We burned so badly
With deep desire for our destiny.
Succeeding gladly,
We went down swinging, then we rose up, free!

Usually I have too many words – that is, more than 44, and have to pair them down. This time I had 42 and had to conjure UP more! 🙂

The Truth About Faces

The Truth About Faces

by Frederick Douglass Grimes, III

Faces show the pain;
Faces show the strain.
Faces show the shame,
But who’s really to blame?

Faces show the stress;
Faces show the mess,
The toll that life has taken
On a spirited blessed soul.

Faces show how strong
A child of God can be.
When we pass the test of internal strength,
A beautiful smile is all you see!

Seasons for the Spirit: The Spice of Life

Seasons for the Spirit: The Spice of Life

by Frederick Douglass Grimes, III

Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall,
These are the Seasons in which we live.
It may be hard to tell
Which Season best describes each one of us.

Some of us may relate better to the Winter season:
Cold, callous, selfish uncaring;
Building walls so no one can enter,
But at the same time
Not building any bridges either…
Such a shame!

Some may better relate to the Spring season:
Happy, full of life, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed;
Ready to take on the world,
Cheerful personality, always greeting folks with a smile!

Or are you better matched with the good old Summertime:
Hot, spicy, ready to drop it like it’s hot;
The typical party animal,
Setting the world on fire!

Or does the Fall season best suit you as a person:
Laid back, calm, peaceful;
Just letting the world go by
Without a care!

But there are other seasonings in life also.
Just as one would season their food for the right taste,
It can’t hurt to season your life to fit the perfect you!

Dealing in your own life always takes time,
But when you have the right herbs and spices,
One can never go wrong.

Whatever season best fits you,
Always remember to take a little time
To add some flavor to your life!

God bless always!

Salty Tears

Savior

You save me from the people
Who know not what they do.
You save me from my enemies
Unconscious of the truth.
You save me from my sins,
Because I put my trust in you,
And may your Spirit lead the way
In everything I do.

You save me from this world of pain,
Because you know my good.
You save me from my wand’ring mind
That won’t rest as it should.
You save me from unworthiness,
Because in you, I could.
And may your Spirit light my path
And take me where you would.

You save me from a heart grown cold,
Because you know my past.
You save me from the worried times
That never really last.
You save me from each question,
For you answer when I ask.
And may your Spirit teach me well
And help me do your task.

You save me from a life of fear,
Because you’re here inside.
You save me from my own defeat,
Because you’re on my side.
You save me from the Hell I’ve known,
Because for me you died.
And may I let your Spirit lead,
My Savior, Lord and Guide!

To See or not to See

To See or not to See?

A Shakespeare Poem for the Blind

by Frederick Douglass Grimes, III

To see or not to see?
That is the question!
Whether it is nobler to be in darkness of our eyes
Or the Spiritual Light of one’s Heart.

many of us have found that we hold a power that is to be used only when needed the most. From birth the good Lord takes each and every one of us on a journey through life’s twists and turns. Throughout this journey, we are all tested. For some of us, our physical sight may be taken, or perhaps we never had any at all. But if we ask, God gives us wisdom to understand His own vision for our lives. For we are His children, and He has a perfect plan for us all.

May God bless us all and be our Light in this life and on to the next!
–The Blind Poet, Freddy G.

Your Gentle Hands

My life is in your gentle hands.
You offer me the best you can.
In understanding pure and sweet,
You hold my heart in love so deep
And give my mind a place to land.

I’ve been a pawn in people’s plans
And don’t know how much I can stand.
But when I’m in distress I meet
Your gentle hands.

I’ve taken tolls, blows and demands
On borrowed time and shifting sands.
I asked the Lord if I could be
Secure and peaceful, loved and free.
His answer came in you, a man
With gentle hands.

This poem is a
Rondeau.

Partially inspired by a modified version of
this poem,
which was read at our wedding ceremony.

The Colors of Love: Springtime Thoughts

The Colors of Love: Springtime Thoughts

by Frederick Douglass Grimes, III

So many colors In the rainbow!
Countless combinations of shades!

Springtime flowers blossom ever so beautiful
The green grass
The trees standing tall
Nature waking up after Winter’s unwelcome visit.

Love has a color all Its own.
Two people meet
And fall so deeply in love
That color is certainly the last thing on their minds.
All they know is true love when they feel it.

Their journey of love takes them many miles and back.
Finally, that blessed day arrives
When they become man and wife,
Starting a brand new life together.

The Light from the Lord is all we need to survive.
Springtime is certainly the most beautiful time of the year.
No sight is needed
To feel the beauty of life, love, and the Lord
And know His colors of Spring!

An Angel and a Sailor: A True Love Story

An Angel and a Sailor: A True Love Story

by Frederick Douglass Grimes, III

Two ships lost in the night,
Two Doves flittering in flight.

Love is their destiny, to be intertwined,
For you see, they both are blind.

They gain strength from each other and most certainly from above,
Two kindred souls so deeply in love.

With the Power from the Almighty as their main Source,
no matter what life’s ups and downs,
They must keep a steady course.

With a positive attitude and tons of gratitude
To the Lord and Savior because it could have been much worse.

Some might think that their life sometimes gets rough,
But that’s one of life’s lessons that keeps them tough.

They have each other’s shoulders to lean on when things get tight,
And the Light from the Lord will always be their sight.

God bless always!
