Stash Reduction: Good? Bad? Metaphysical?

“I’m selling this because I need to reduce my stash.”

“My husband/partner/significant other is complaining this takes up too much room, so out it goes.”

“I’m moving and need to downsize, so this has to go.”

“I’m selling because I need the money.”

“I don’t use this as much as I thought I would (or should).”

Ok, I admit it. I regularly check yarn and craft related sites. Why? For blessed bargains, of course! 😀 And for other reasons…

I read postings for things I don’t want, use or desire in any way, just to get a glimpse of the spirit in which people are selling things. Over and over, I see variations of the quotes above.

Is this good? Bad? I choose to say no, it is neither good, nor bad. But it is metaphysical. Here’s how I see it.

Stash reduction, by its very name (notice I didn’t say nature!), implies that you have too much stuff. Who engages in this mysterious thing called stash reduction? People who think they need to get rid of something, who feel bad for having what they have, and/or who want something else (money?) and think they can get it, by giving up what they have now.

So first off, stash reduction needs a new name. But what? How about flex and flow? This way the cycle can be more positive.

I have ___. It no longer serves me. So it’s time for ___ to move on. It’s time for me to move on too, and receive something else.

In metaphysics we know that nothing can live in a vacuum. There must always be ebb and flow, giving and receiving, expansion and contraction, in and out… In short, there is always evolution. Or, change is constant.

It is our belief about, and reaction to that change that we’re addressing here. Why are the people above reducing their stashes? For fear/lack-based reasons. Fear of not having enough space, making someone else mad (as if we can really do that!) by having material things, a belief in lack of money and/or space, and even lack of self-worth.

What? How do I get that? Well, if you think you don’t use something as much as you thought you should, that’s a judgment. And basically, it’s a judgment that the thing (whatever you’re selling) deserves better than you’re giving it.

Also, let’s return to the “others” who share our space. They complain to us that we have too much stuff, they don’t see us using that ___, and we feel bad. We feel bad, because somewhere within us, we believe they’re right. We feel guilty for having what we have, feel stifled by our belief that other people and their stuff deserve to occupy the space we’re using, and so we react. We react by getting rid of our manifestations, thereby (we think) giving them more space.

And yet: they always find something new to complain about, don’t they! This is their work, their problem. Not ours.

So to recap: Stash reduction is hereby known as flex and flow! We get something, we use it, and when we feel darn good and ready, we evolve to something else. “Logical reasons” for selling stuff hold no water here. The important thing, as always, is our mindset. Truly, why are we selling/getting rid of things? If it’s out of love and we can do it with only good feelings, more power to us! If it’s out of anything less than great feelings, don’t act.

We were each created with the powers of wisdom, peace, discernment and evolution. So we can seek guidance from within, even in what seem to be small things, like which yarn and tools to keep, and which to pass on.

The better you feel, the better it gets! So give from a good-feeling place, and you will be enriched, even as the stuff around you changes!

Prayer for Protection – Poetry and Prayers of Unity Week 2

This is the second of two very widely published poems by Unity’s Poet Laureate James Dillet Freeman. It also explains why he is called “Poet Laureate to the Moon.” Along with “I Am There,” a copy of this prayer was left on the moon by Apollo astronauts. 🙂

The Prayer for Protection is well-known and loved by people of all faiths, religions and belief systems. Remember that Jim Freeman’s work was not only published by Unity. This affirms the universal truth of his writing.

Prayer for Protection – Contemplations

No questions here, just personal observations… My intention is that you will read the prayer and find its personal meaning to you.

We discussed in the live class that each line is an affirmation. These affirmations start general – we all basically accept that “The light of God surrounds me,” etc.

However, about the time we come to “The Mind of God guides me,” it gets more personal. Had Freeman started the prayer with this line, it probably would not have been as effective. People wouldn’t have been able to relate to a blanket statement, “The Mind of God guides me.” But with the foundation of the more general affirmations, already knowing they are true, the conscious mind accepts this one more easily. It’s as if Freeman is preparing the mind to “go all the way” to feeling the truth of Spirit/God’s presence. These affirmations are a tool for the conscious mind to get used to the Truth.

We talked a lot about “The laws of God direct me.” These laws are universal, rather than human laws, religious laws of any kind, or even things we culturally accept to be morally “right.” God’s laws are love, good, truth, beauty – because these are what God is. Call it the law of attraction, law of mind, law of love… It’s all the same law, and it’s all God’s laws.

Are you truly directed by man-made laws? No! If you choose to be, you can be directed by the laws of God. You can also choose to ignore them, but they are still at work. The thing is, if you choose to work with them, using your creative power in harmony with God’s laws, you will manifest/experience good in your life. If you choose to ignore the laws, or don’t know how to use them for the highest good, you will likely experience negativity.

As a result, it’s a powerful affirmation to say and feel, that “The laws of God direct me.”

“The power of God abides within me.” We know this in metaphysics. But how often do we feel it? Again, I find it no coincidence that this affirmation appears where it does. If we started with this, it could have less impact. But as we’ve already accepted so many truths, we can’t help but accept this one as well. God’s power is within you.

The next 3 lines expand on the power of God by also affirming that we have God’s joy, strength and beauty. “Under circumstances” – though I have no idea why we’re under there! – we sometimes feel anything but joy, strength and beauty. So to affirm we have them, in prayer and meditation, brings them to mind when we need them in life. The more we practice this, the better we feel and the better our lives reflect it.

And the big one: “Wherever I am, God is!” ‘Nuff said!

I recommend meditating on this prayer. At Unity we say it every Sunday. But as rituals can, sometimes it becomes a habit, and we no longer feel what we’re saying. I encourage each of us to feel this prayer, to make it real for ourselves, and to make it part of our accepted core beliefs.

As always, if you have any comments, questions or feedback, please feel free to contact me!

Stop trying!

Don’t give up on yourself! But don’t try too hard either!

The harder you try, the harder you will have to keep trying.

Law of attraction, bless it!, dictates that whatever we feel, we get back. So if you think you have to try, improve, work, struggle, worry, seek, etc…

Guess what?

It’s true… You do!

However, if you realize you’re always, every moment of every day, improving, automagically…

What a relief! You are, and you don’t even have to work at it!

“Do or do not… there is no try.”

Daily Blessing – Affirmative Prayer Song

I wrote this song on 1/1/2011. Since then it’s been my joy to consciously accept and manifest (make visible to myself and others) the blessings in each year, each season, and each day.

Remember: Even when you seem to be having “a bad day,” you can still choose how to feel, what to think, and what to see/perceive and say in this very moment. So this isn’t just a daily affirmation or prayer, but a moment-by-moment awareness.

Daily Blessing – Lyrics

Instrument: Lady – tenor Flea ukulele

I accept the blessings of this brand new day,
Open to its possibilities!
I see the world in a brand new way,
Unlimited and free!

Every moment, every day,
I intend the very best.
What to think and do and say,
All stem from love and rest.

James Dillet Freeman – Poetry and Prayers of Unity Week 1

We started off Poetry and Prayers of Unity with Unity’s best-known poet, James Dillet Freeman. This week’s poems were “God Bless your Birthday,” as a member celebrated her birthday, “How do I find what Life’s About?” and the classic “I Am There.”

“God Bless your Birthday” – Contemplation Questions

After reading “God Bless your Birthday” in Music of the Soul, think about your own answers to these questions.

1. Would you send this poem to someone you love, without altering it? Is there anything here you would not wish for someone?

2. Do you see any references to getting old, giving up, negative changes, etc?

3. What feeling do you have when reading this poem?

4. Would you like to receive this poem on your birthday? How would you feel after receiving it? What would you do as a result of that feeling?

5. Do any words or lines stand out to you in this poem? For me especially “smilestone in eternity>’

“How do I find what Life’s About?” – Contemplation Questions

Find this poem on Jim’s bio page, linked above. After reading it, think about your answers to these questions.

1. Did you sense the meaning right away, or did you get carried away by the rhythm and rhyme of the poem?

2. What could you “venture farther out” from?

3. What do we often do when “something in me is not content”? I.e. suppress it, think something is wrong, etc?

4. Is something wrong when something in us isn’t content? Do we have a right to follow it and see where it leads?

5. What does it mean to you to hear “Something affirms that I am meant for more?” How do you feel knowing, or trying on the belief, that this is true?

6. How can we “fly?” What does it mean to you to fly in life?

7. Do you feel that “venture farther out” from line 2, and “going beyond the edge of things” from line 7, are related? How so? Or why not?

8. A basic metaphysical principle is in the lines about wings. Think about what it means to you, to have wings “being mainly in the mind.”

9. What “more” can be found in you, from the last line?

I Am There – Contemplation Questions

Read this poem on Jim’s bio page above, or the Prayer section of www.unity.org.

This is one of the most powerful metaphysical poems I’ve ever read. And it’s not just me! 🙂 This poem has been left on the moon, distributed through publications and on CD through Unity, and read by billions of people. Inspiring, comforting and meditative, I ask that you meditate on “I Am There” if you feel lead.

1. What is the “I am” in this poem?

2. How do you feel knowing that an invisible power sees, hears and feels through you?

3. What is the “self” we must get beyond, and later “get yourself out of the way,” in order to know the “I am?”

4. How can we know this presence?

5. Even in denial, fears, pain, loneliness and lack of prayer – this presence is there. Knowing this presence is only good, how does that make you feel?

6. Why do you think the presence has faith in us? To me, it is because we are its creations, and Spirit/God/Universe would not create something unless it knew that creation was good. I.e. all creations are good because they all come from and are made of the presence. Therefore, Presence must have faith in us. What an affirmation: God has faith in me!

7. Just an observation… How powerful to be called Spirit’s beloved! Who says that…? We get honey, sweetheart, love, dear, blah blah blah… And from other people. But to be the Beloved of the Universe? And not just be it, because you are, but when you truly feel that… Now there’s a partner!

This poem, to me, is an intellectual exercise. I don’t know what James Dillet Freeman thought when he wrote it. Technically, it could have ended at the beginning: “Do you need Me? I am there.” End of story.

But because we have a personal/ego mind that holds onto things, gets obsessive at times, and needs to be convinced, Freeman goes on. He offers so many affirmations, aspects and descriptions of the I Am, that by the end of the poem, your “logical” conscious mind can’t help but be convinced that, yes, this is Truth. This is why I highly recommend meditating on this poem!

We had a lot of great discussion on all 3 of these poems! I tried here to offer the basics of that. However, as I said in class, especially with “I Am There,” we need to experience God ourselves. Others can, as I intend to, hold the space and know others’ good. However, getting your own personal feeling of God, when you can know, with or without words, that “This” is the Presence, that’s what I believe metaphysics is about. Not intellectual understanding, etc, but about feeling, and thereby experiencing a better life, because you know God.

Goodness – Affirmative Prayer

I recognize that there is one life. That life is God’s life. And that life is my life now. I recognize that I am that life. I am life itself. And life is good. Therefore, I am good, and all my life experience is good. I see good in everything, and everything I see is good! God in me sees good in all, because all is from God, and God is only good. Therefore, Good is all I can ever see. I am good, because God as me is good, now and always, Therefore, I, the good, see good in my world, because my world, also of God, is only good! I am grateful for the good that is me, the good that is God, the good that is my life itself, the good that is each thing in my life, the good that is my every life experience! I give thanks for the ability to feel grateful and blessed with good things! I know that Good, and God is all there is. This I know, this I vibrate, and this I attract. I believe it is so! And so it is!

Best wishes!

I usually share original material on peaceweaving. Today I’ve chosen a song and a meditation by others, that speak to me.

Ticket to Heaven by Ruth Barrett sings my wish for myself and everyone. Though written as a Pagan/Wiccan song, it is truly about peace, love and light to all.

The meditation is internationally known. World Healing Meditation by John Randolph Price has been read on 12/31 throughout the world since 1986 – when I was 2 years old. 🙂 I read it for the first time on 12/31/12 and have chosen to read it each morning for 21 days total. I’m not sure if anyone else does this, and for me it’s a reminder of how I want to start, and continue, 2013 and every year.

My wishes for every creation – that means you! – are for peace of mind, love in heart, joy in spirit, health in body and inner happiness manifest in the physical world!

Bless’d be!

Last-minute Gifts

On Saturday my 5-year-old son and I finished wrapping presents. We wrapped one for another little boy, and I thought we were done. Later on, my son came to me and said, “Mommy, can’t we make something to wrap up for him?”

This goes back to before Thanksgiving, when my son asked me to make him a scarf. Of course I was thrilled – who wouldn’t be when a small boy says, “Mommy, can you weave me a scarf like yours?” I told him I would. And I did, except it took longer than the ONE NIGHT he wanted! 😀 But I did finish his scarf, complete with woven textured snowballs and pockets.

So now he was asking me if we could weave a scarf for his friend. I said sure, again glad he appreciates handmade things.

But it was so much more than that. He was so excited, just knowing we could finish the scarf in time, wanting to help warp and weave, looking forward to wrapping the present. It was my little boy’s excitement and pure intention that created that scarf.

Yes, we warped and wove together. We washed it together, and we wrapped it together. In fact, the only thing I did “by myself” was trim the fringe and weft ends. My son has been interested in weaving since I started weaving when he was 2. And this year, he felt it was important enough to have scarves for himself, his friend, and for me.

Never mind that we had 3 days to finish the scarf. Never mind that we didn’t warp until the evening of 12/22. Never mind that I thought I was running out of yarn.

I look back on it now and my thought is: Wow! I could have really sabotaged this for myself and my son! I could have gotten caught up in the last-minute gift thing, how we didn’t have enough time, how it takes handwovens a while – a long while – to dry in the cold weather, and any number of other things.

But I had no thoughts like that at all. Fortunately, I was blessed to be feeling the same excitement my son felt, and the feeling continued while we wove together.

I could have chosen to feel busy. But what fun is that? I could have felt rushed. But whom would that have served? My son could have thought I was too busy… But thankfully he felt free enough to ask me to help weave the gift.

We attended Sunday celebration at unity as we usually do, and we stayed for snacks and fellowship afterward. We read extra stories, because again, he asked for that connection.

So when did we finish the scarf? Sunday evening, with time to spare before the online celebration I wanted to watch!

When it seems you have no time, it’s time to be extra mindful of how you feel. Do you feel cramped? Rushed? Busy? Preoccupied? Fearful? Worried? Anxious? Pressured? If so, remember that you always have a choice. Find a better-feeling thought, and that will attract another and another and another… Until you feel like time is no longer an issue.

As I write this, my son sits on the floor playing. Since we finished the scarf last night, we’ve watched a movie together, played several games, helped others wrap presents, cleaned up for our party later, and even gone to bed at a “decent hour!” 😀

Time is irrelevant to me, and for this I am truly grateful!

Yuletide, New Era, Rebirth Celebration

I celebrate Yule, though not with ritual as some Pagans, Wiccans and others do. My celebration is one of personal meditation and music.

Come this Yuletide, I’ll be adding thoughts. As 12/21/12 approaches, I feel excitement! Since “the end of the world” is not an option for me, I ask, “What is being born now?”

What do I want to see in my personal life? How do I want to feel? You notice I’m not saying what do I want to change? … No. Instead, I’m looking at the positive, from a standpoint of “it’s already done!” as we do in metaphysics.

I’ve said before that I sometimes combine Goddess and metaphysical spirituality. My foundational beliefs are metaphysical. The way I choose to relate to them, in song, ritual when I choose that, and symbols, is sometimes Goddess-centered. I have the form of a woman after all; so that makes sense to me right now.

On 12/21/12 I will sing songs by Ruth Barrett, celebrating Yule, the rebirth of the Sun, and the joyous turning of the wheel.

I’m also attending a virtual retreat by Brenda MacIntyre, Medicine Song Woman, to anchor more sacred feminine energy into my life and business.

I will meditate using the ZPoint process, to release resistance to change. And I intend to write a song or two myself!

I write, read, weave, speak, meditate, sing and celebrate to externalize and at the same time amplify, the spiritual connection I feel. Some of these things may work for you, too! If not, I ask you to enjoy this celebration in whatever way feels best for you!

As Brenda says, we can approach 12/21/12 with fear or with love or with anything in between! I choose love and excitement!

And you?
