Rivers of Song

I have written songs,
Unrelated to each other
Yet related to me
And relationships I have,
Have had,
Or would like to have.

Love the Broken Ones

Salty Tears

Soul Reflection

Every song
Is a river –
Flowing,
Flooded,
Or longed for.

Cry me a river?
No, I cry my own
In song.

And I feel
Better
For the cry.

And the river of my life
Flows onward!

Reflection on Sea

The sea reflects our brilliant sun
Until another day is done.

It carries me so wide and far,
A sailor following the stars.

I take a journey in my mind;
*I ask, I seek, I knock – and find.

The voyage ends and waters part
With sun reflecting in my heart.

*“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.
–Matthew 7:7-8 (NKJV)

You Still Have My Love

If you received this post by email, click the URL to hear this song.

Discernment is extremely important in all relationships. We use our discernment (judgement, sensitivity, enlightenment, discrimination, taste) in communication, behavior, speech, and of course, in choosing partners and the kind of relationship to have with them. Written in 2017, this song came out of that discernment for me. I ended that relationship, and Freddy and I became closer. We are married now, another positive discernment!

You Still Have My Love – Lyrics

1. I have feelings of sweetness for you
And all these dreams that I want to come true.
I have wishes, but I’m not confused.

Refrain:
I know that I can’t be your honey, honey,
But you still have my love.

2. Life happens, and people get hurt.
Tables turn, and relationships don’t work.
Looking forward, I am alert.
Refrain:

3. Love is a tree with fruits untold
And all the beauty of life to behold.
If we cut it down, love can’t unfold.
Refrain:

4. I have feelings that tell me to stay
And all these dreams that are gonna have to wait.
I have wishes, and I keep them at bay.
Refrain:

No, I can’t be your honey, honey,
But you, you still have my love.

Our Winning Hand #RDP #Ragtag Daily Prompt

I lay down a card on the table,
My friendship that came from the heart.
You added in kind, and it made us
Much more than the sum of our parts.

You lay down a loyalty strengthened
By losses and wins you came through.
I gave you the same, and we flourished
As equals in trusting and truth.

You raised me a love full of sweetness
That never before had I known.
I prayed that my dealing could match you,
And since then our winnings have grown!

We pooled everything and we married;
Love, friendship and loyalty stand.
The sum of our hearts now is priceless,
Our cards laid by God’s loving hand.

How you Play the Game

Blind and Blessed

Blind and Blessed

by Frederick Douglass Grimes, III

A Bird sits in a tree.
Ships sail over the seas.

What’s life’s destiny for you and me?
Can the Blind truly see?

If not, are we really free?
Or just slaves to the darkness, unending and deep?

With the inner eye, we can see the truth,
Each one of us, down to me and you.

Who are we then to judge another?
After all, are we not sister and brother?

We live in the shadows every day
With only the Light of the Lord to guide the way.

At times the peace we feel can’t be replaced,
Not taking part in the hustle and bustle,
Nor giving into the chase.

Life is surely fast enough.
Take time to sit and ponder
And deal with your inner stuff.

Even in darkness we show no fear,
Because God is with us, always near.

His plan has already been mapped out;
It’s up to us to carry it out.

Your faith in God should never be broken.
These words ring true. The Blind Poet has spoken! 🙂

Lovecycle

As in and out the seasons flow
And days go by, some fast, some slow,
With things I can or cannot bear;
Through change, unchanging love we share.

By day I wake, by night I sleep
(Or not) and then a vigil keep.
I know both hope and deep despair;
Through change, unchanging love we share.

The path is lit; the way is dark.
The slightest rustle leaves a mark.
I walk through fog and clearest air;
Through change, unchanging love we share.

As in and out the seasons flow,
Through change, unchanging love we share.

Glass Houses

Glass Houses

by Frederick Douglass Grimes, III

Where do you live?
What’s your address?

Do you reside on
Live and Let Live Blvd?

Or is your happy home on
Judgment Ave?

You must ask yourself this question…
Or not,
only if you care enough
to consider your neighbors.

We all live
in life’s glass houses,
and no one is perfect –
even relatively close.

Think for a minute.
Life would be boring
if we all were perfect!

We would instantly know
what our neighbors think of us,
and that could cause many problems.

As life is now,
anyone can tell you
anything.
And who’s to know
if it be truth or fiction?

What a world that would be indeed!
That old adage always rings true:

Those who live in glass houses
should not
throw
stones!

And remember…
We all live
in life’s
glass houses!

Good Wood

I am wood,
balanced between
earth and sky.

I am turquoise,
green and blue, earth and water
combined.

I am wood,
grown, cut down, fashioned, burned,
changed by my own life path.

I am Spring,
even when I don’t feel the sun
within.

I am wood,
creating fire,
destroying and transforming.

I am mi,
not the root but still essential
to the musical scale.

I am wood,
balanced between
earth and sky.

Battleground

I am on my way,
light and dark and day
and night.
Constantly I pray
that I do not stray
from right.
Yet I feel the clay
at my feet decay.

Dragons I must slay
circle me and play
with fire.
Jumping in the fray,
piercing with a ray
of ire.
Wounded, there I lay,
under skies of gray.

Standing now, I sway,
look around and they
are gone…
Spirit on display
lifts me up to say
WELL DONE!
Light and dark and day,
I am on my way!
