You Bring Me Back

No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you.
–Joshua 1:5 (NKJV)

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
–Matthew 6:33 (NKJV)

“What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost until he finds it? And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!’ I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance.
–Luke 15:4-7 (NKJV)

You Bring Me Back – Lyrics

You bring me back to Yourself.

1. This world distracts,
Convincing me it has something I lack.
But You bring me back to Yourself.

2. This world confides,
Inviting me into the darkness inside.
But You bring me back to Yourself.
Refrain:

3. This world is frail.
It’s strong from a distance, and close up it fails.
But You bring me back to Yourself.

4. This world is Yours.
You make each illusion a lesson and more.
And You bring me back to Yourself.
Refrain:

You bring me back to Yourself.

Refrain:
You bring me back
And remind me that You never leave me.
You bring me back to Yourself.

I wrote this song for someone’s birthday. But it applies to so many people for so many occasions! Springtime is a season of graduations, proms, weddings, and other beginnings. Enjoy, and share as directed–by Spirit.

1. When the rain comes pouring down,
May you have a boat so you don’t drown.
When blessings touch your open hands,
I hope you fill them up with all you can.
Refrain:

2. When the sun is shining bright,
May you grow in happiness and light.
And I hope you hear that restful call,
When the evening shadows fall.
Refrain:

3. When you’re feeling bad,
I hope a simple something makes you glad.
And find a little peace of mind,
No matter what this world provides.
Refrain: (Twice)

All these things and more, I wish for you. (Twice)

Refrain:
All these things and more (3x)
I wish for you.

Tender Touch

Happy Mother’s Day to moms and children alike! This song is not just for mothers, but moms will relate to it. May you feel God’s tender touch when you need it most!

1. You give me feelings,
And you make me care,
But God, I just don’t understand.
You make me hope
When I’m running in despair,
And I know that you must have a plan.

Refrain 1:
Oh can you tell me why, oh why
This life can hurt so much?
At every turn I cry and cry;
I’m reaching for your touch.

2. You give me love,
And you make me dream,
But everything is in my way.
You make me try,
When I only wanna scream.
And you let me live another day.
Refrain 1:

3. I’ll never know
The work you do
Until it’s all complete and done.
So I ask for patience,
Peace, and truth
To be what you’ve begun.

Refrain 2:
‘Cause only you know why, oh why
This life can hurt so much.
You hold me when I cry and cry,
And I feel your tender touch.

You give me feelings,
And you make me care.
And God, please help me understand.

Every Mother’s Tears

Friendly Soil

Bring in the rototiller,
The plow and tractor too,
And don’t forget the mower,
Shovel, rake and other tools!

It’s time to plant the garden,
And it’s got to be just right,
Or else the crops and people
Will be in quite a plight!

So stir the soil with gusto,
And compost it real well.
The garden could be heaven,
Or perhaps a living hell.

Now I must tell you something:
We have left the best behind.
How can we tend the garden,
And forget to tend the mind?

The Trail Inside

If you received this post by email, click the URL to hear this song.

1. I’m easily distracted
From the path I’m meant to take.
I smell inviting fruits,
And I want to have a taste.
But even when I falter,
Even when I stray,
You light my way.
Refrain:

2. So many loud opinions,
People give advice.
I don’t know what to do,
And perhaps they got it right.
But even as I wonder,
Even as I pray,
You light my way.
Refrain: (Twice)

Oh remind me of the trail inside.
Remind me of the trail inside.

Refrain:
There are trails of tears
And paths of happiness;
Ways of destruction
And roads to being blessed.
Wherever I may go,
Spirit be my guide,
And remind me of the trail inside.

Perfect Union

You whisper to me,
and I do not hear.

You blow through my mind
like a gentle breeze,
soft, unruffled
breath of love.

You touch my heart
as the morning sun,
shining me awake
in the dawn of your presence.

You speak to my soul
without words, without sound,
sweet music made
when we dance together.

You whisper to me,
and I do not hear–
perfect union.

The Spirit has whispered many poems this month! Some funny, some serious, some more Metaphysical, some right up front for all to see. I’m grateful for each one, and all the poets who commit to this opening of heart, mind, soul, and time to bring art into a world in need! Thanks also to the readers–without you, our words would fall on dry soil!

Simple Blessing

To me, this song is a blessing in itself! I wrote the music on ukulele in 2010 or earlier. It didn’t have lyrics then, but I enjoyed the instrumental. I played it on Celtic harp,
posted here
with a poem in 2013, but still no lyrics. This week the lyrics came together; it took no time and little thought. So on ukulele as written, enjoy the song, Simple Blessing.

Simple Blessing – Lyrics

1. Blessings in life are the simplest of things,
Warmth in the Winter and breezes in Spring,
Summer of fruit, good and plenty for all,
Veggies and grain come to harvest in Fall.

2. Waking each morning and sleeping at night,
Being in darkness and seeing the Light,
Feeling the Presence of God through the year,
Struggles and sorrows, they all disappear.

Refrain:
When we give a smile, and hear the voice of a child,
When we look and see possibility,
With an open mind, we can’t help but find
We are planting the seeds for a blessing to be!

3. Blessings in life are the simplest of things,
Feeling the joy a beginning can bring,
Spending some time looking back at the end
To celebrate life as it circles again.

4. The words that we say and the things that we do,
Each thought we hold onto is planting our truth.
Sow every seed with a gardener’s care;
Water and nurture the goodness you share.
Refrain:

May we plant Heaven’s seeds for a blessing to be!

Allow – The Blessing Song

Prayers with Airs

In e-ve-ry way
this penultimate day
of National Poetry writing,
I feel a great need
to wonder and grieve
for all the big words they are citing!

Now penultimate means
that my pen is a fiend.
Not really but how can you know it?
It’s dumb and absurd
using uncommon words
for the fancified voice of a poet.

And so I wanna say
this penultimate day,
remember what Jesus admonished…
TO be heard in your prayers,
don’t put on any airs.
Say the words in your heart and be honest!

Day 29 and holding… Penultimate means next-to-last. I’ve never used that word in my life! Today it’s just to prove a point.

What Jesus said was:

“And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words. (Matthew 6:5,7, NKJV)

A Single Tear

Oh dear! A tear!
It’s clear, I fear.

Upon my face
a big disgrace,
where in its place
a smile should race.

It hurt me so
to learn and know
the status quo:
Don’t let it show!

But on the spot
I plum forgot!
Untied the knot
to dump the lot.

The tear fell down
without a sound.
And lost, I found
I didn’t drown!

But kept the pace
and learned to face
the inner space,
my feeling place,
without disgrace.
The truth I trace:
This human race
would better place,
if as a base
we built in grace
for tears’ embrace!

Today at napowrimo.net, we’re asked for a poem in Skeltonic verse. I know, right? I never heard that before either. But I like it.
