I Wish for You

If you received this post by email, click the URL to hear this song.

I wrote this song for someone’s birthday. But it applies to so many people for so many occasions! Springtime is a season of graduations, proms, weddings, and other beginnings. Enjoy, and share as directed–by Spirit.

1. When the rain comes pouring down,
May you have a boat so you don’t drown.
When blessings touch your open hands,
I hope you fill them up with all you can.
Refrain:

2. When the sun is shining bright,
May you grow in happiness and light.
And I hope you hear that restful call,
When the evening shadows fall.
Refrain:

3. When you’re feeling bad,
I hope a simple something makes you glad.
And find a little peace of mind,
No matter what this world provides.
Refrain: (Twice)

All these things and more, I wish for you. (Twice)

Refrain:
All these things and more (3x)
I wish for you.

Friendly Soil

Bring in the rototiller,
The plow and tractor too,
And don’t forget the mower,
Shovel, rake and other tools!

It’s time to plant the garden,
And it’s got to be just right,
Or else the crops and people
Will be in quite a plight!

So stir the soil with gusto,
And compost it real well.
The garden could be heaven,
Or perhaps a living hell.

Now I must tell you something:
We have left the best behind.
How can we tend the garden,
And forget to tend the mind?

The Trouble with Spring

Welcome, Springtime!

Perfect Union

You whisper to me,
and I do not hear.

You blow through my mind
like a gentle breeze,
soft, unruffled
breath of love.

You touch my heart
as the morning sun,
shining me awake
in the dawn of your presence.

You speak to my soul
without words, without sound,
sweet music made
when we dance together.

You whisper to me,
and I do not hear–
perfect union.

The Spirit has whispered many poems this month! Some funny, some serious, some more Metaphysical, some right up front for all to see. I’m grateful for each one, and all the poets who commit to this opening of heart, mind, soul, and time to bring art into a world in need! Thanks also to the readers–without you, our words would fall on dry soil!

Simple Blessing

To me, this song is a blessing in itself! I wrote the music on ukulele in 2010 or earlier. It didn’t have lyrics then, but I enjoyed the instrumental. I played it on Celtic harp,
posted here
with a poem in 2013, but still no lyrics. This week the lyrics came together; it took no time and little thought. So on ukulele as written, enjoy the song, Simple Blessing.

Simple Blessing – Lyrics

1. Blessings in life are the simplest of things,
Warmth in the Winter and breezes in Spring,
Summer of fruit, good and plenty for all,
Veggies and grain come to harvest in Fall.

2. Waking each morning and sleeping at night,
Being in darkness and seeing the Light,
Feeling the Presence of God through the year,
Struggles and sorrows, they all disappear.

Refrain:
When we give a smile, and hear the voice of a child,
When we look and see possibility,
With an open mind, we can’t help but find
We are planting the seeds for a blessing to be!

3. Blessings in life are the simplest of things,
Feeling the joy a beginning can bring,
Spending some time looking back at the end
To celebrate life as it circles again.

4. The words that we say and the things that we do,
Each thought we hold onto is planting our truth.
Sow every seed with a gardener’s care;
Water and nurture the goodness you share.
Refrain:

May we plant Heaven’s seeds for a blessing to be!

Allow – The Blessing Song

What I’m Doing

Just catching up on some reading
where folks tell what it’s like
to be in their shoes.
It seems I’ve worn some of those shoes.

Just listening to a song
that came from someone’s heart,
touched by another.
It seems I’ve felt that touch.

Just enjoying the breeze
sent to cheer the day
and lift the birds to new heights.
It seems I’ve flown that high before.

Just catching up
on the life you’ve given me
to remind me of the beauty
I don’t seem to remember enough.

And just saying thank you!

Postcard from the Heart

I’m poeming here in the land of sun
With birds and flowers, sweetness and fun.
The only thing better, it’s perfectly clear,
Would be poeming with your laughter near.

I’m singing here in the land of love
With all of these blessings straight from above.
And the greatest one I’ve seen so far
Is the Light that shimmers between our hearts.

With me you go; with me you stay,
No matter where you are today.
Tomorrow you will come along
In heart, in soul, in poem and song.

A short (enough?) postcard poem for De’s prompt at
dVerse.
Come travel the world with all the amazing poets this April, and join in. We don’t bite!

Refreshing Rain

A pattering, sprinkling drizzle at first,
Becoming a torrent, a downpour that burst
From clouds of the fluffiest, puffiest kind,
Restoring my body, renewing my mind;
My heart, an oasis, is blessed from above,
To blossom and grow in the rain of your love.

A Quadrille for NaPoWriMo day 10, in response to the “drizzle” prompt from Mish at

Love Is a Coconut

If you received this post by email, click the URL to hear this song.

Wishing all of you a blessed Palm Sunday, wherever you are! I must say, the closest this song comes to the occasion is a tropical theme, but a fun song anyway. ๐Ÿ™‚

Instrument: Brio – Red Cedar Concert Ukulele

1. Love is a coconut
Wrapped in a shell so tough
Cracking it wide
There’s sweetness inside
Love is a coconut.

2. Love is a tidal wave
Enter it and be brave
Washing you clean
Of what you have been
Love is a tidal wave.

So give a little
To get a lot
It’s the best investment
That this world has got!

3. Love is a burning fire
Feeding a deep desire
Passion awakes
A beautiful change
Love is a burning fire.

4. Love is the breath of life
Keeping you day and night
Make it your own
When you’re building a home
‘Cause love is the breath of life.

So give a little
To get a lot
It’s the best investment
That this world has got!

5. Love is the voice that sings
Giving your heart its wings
Finding the words
Unspoken and heard
Love is the voice that sings.

Repeat 1.

Love is a coconut (Twice).

Window Pains

The windows are wanting a dusting;
They can’t see a thing through the dirt.
And none but the birds are rejoicing.
Their view is a little bit hurt.

The windows are wanting a shower,
The grit and the grime piled high.
The birds who can’t see their reflections
Are keeping their gaze to the sky.

The windows are wanting a cleaning,
The curtains depressed in the gloom.
And carried on wings of the springtime,
The birds are suspecting their doom.

The windows are wanting their changes;
The birds, bless their buttons, confide:
“We don’t want our ending beginning
In windows that shimmer with pride!”

My attempt at anthropomorphism for Lillian’s prompt at
dVerse.
I’m not sure it hits the spot, but I’m proud of its poetics. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ Also a great one for NaPoWriMo day 4.
