Moral Compass

Instrument: Brio – Red Cedar Concert Ukulele

Refrain:
What does it mean to be good?
What does it mean to do what you should?
How do you know what’s right?
What does it mean to go far?
What does it mean to be who you are?
How do you see the Light?

1. Society can’t help you ’cause it’s broken.
It answers with a question leaving doubt.
And loving one another is a token
Of words we just can’t seem to carry out.
So
Refrain:

2. We’ve got to learn to look beyond the faces
Of those who preach the practice of the truth.
The teacher’s in the most unlikely places-
It shimmers in the soul that lives in you!
So ask it
Refrain:

How can I be the Light?
What does it mean to be good?

Connecting Prayer

You are me. I am you.
Nothing can part us. We are not two.

We are one. Thy will be done.
Spirit made flesh. The web is spun.

Created in love. Below and above.
Earthly illusions, the push and the shove.

Yet in every thing eternity sings,
One Spirit of knowing that plays its own strings.

Because you are me. And I am you.
Nothing can part us, One in the Truth!
Amen.

Shapes of Practice

Circles, squares,
Poems, Prayers!
Weaving, writing,
Creating, inviting!

Lessons, reading,
Learning, eating!
Feeding body, mind and soul
With the work I love to hold,

Only then to give away
The things that fill each joyous day
To someone needing comfort, care–
In weaving, writing,
Circles, squares!

I always enjoy Walt’s prompts over at
dVerse,
and this one is no exception. We’re asked to write of either drought or deluge. I’ve experienced both on many levels, and each takes a different art of balancing! This current deluge is a positive one. 🙂

Lost Heart

I cannot find my heart
In the hustle and bustle and hassle and rustle…
Though it’s not even Christmas, I fear!
I cannot find my heart
In illusion, confusion, profusion, delusion,
For its voice is too quiet to hear.

In the silence I wait,
When I can remember,
And call to the Spirit inside.
I cannot find my heart
Unless I am seeking
Rediscovering what’s always been mine.

For the Fifth Anniversary celebration at
dVerse,
where Walt asks us to draw inspiration from this quote:
“I am cold, even though the heat of early summer is adequate. I am cold because I cannot find my heart.” ~Sebastian Barry from his novel A Long, Long Way

Beloved

I am God’s Beloved!

A song for meditation and affirmation.

Instrument: Tempo – Seagull Excursion Folk Acoustic Guitar

1. Beloved,
Remember I know your heart.
I was yours before the start.
I love your tender heart.

2. Beloved,
Remember I fill your soul
With water that keeps you whole.
I love your thirsty soul.

You are the Light that shines within this world.
You are eternal Word.
You are my body made to do and feel.
You are my perfect work.

3. Beloved,
Remember I made your mind.
Seek me there, and you will find.
I love your brilliant mind.

You are the Light that shines within this world.
You are eternal Word.
You are my body made to do and feel.
You are my perfect work.

Repeat 1.

Beloved,
Beloved,
My Beloved.

Earth Blessing

A blessing song for our Mother Earth and her many inhabitants. May we live in harmony here, and with all beings everywhere!

Instrument: Brio – Red Cedar Concert Ukulele

Refrain:
Earth we know
Earth we love
As below
So above.
Earth we take
Earth we give
We awake
As one to live!

1. May compassion be our guide,
Seeing all that you provide.
May our knowledge come to show
Wisdom as we change and grow.
Refrain:

2. May we give to you our best,
Loving kindness, peace, and rest.
Harmony is One in All,
Shaping land and waterfall.
Refrain:

3. God above and on the earth
Lives through every death and birth.
Planet of the Spirit, too,
May we handle you with Truth!
Refrain:

Every Mother’s Tears

Instrument: Brio – Red Cedar Concert Ukulele

1. It doesn’t matter whether she gave birth to them or not.
Her heart knows they’re her children and a precious gift she got.
But every time she hears them cry, Mom cries a little too,
For all the taking, fixing, healing she would like to do.

Refrain 1:
She cries a billion tears of love and fear,
And through all the years may she know
That the Spirit bright shines the Light
To make a rainbow
From every mother’s tears.

2. Even when they move away, she carries them around,
And somewhere deep inside her, every mother knows the sound
Of all the hopes and happiness her children want and plan.
How she would love to wrap each one and place it in their hands!
Refrain 1:

We want to hold them tightly,
But we need to let them go
And let our tears wash over them
To help our children grow!

3. It doesn’t matter whether we gave birth to them or not.
We take care of God’s children and the precious gift we got.
And every time we hear them cry, we cry a little too,
With thanks for all the taking, fixing, healing God can do!

God bless each mother’s tears.

Refrain 2:
We cry a billion tears of love so dear,
And through all the years may we know
That the Spirit bright shines the Light
To make a rainbow
From every mother’s tears.

Mother-Love

Wait on the Lord

If ya wanna find some peace of mind,
Gotta set this house in order!
If ya wanna be the change you seek,
Gotta set this house in order!
If ya love yourself and you wanna be free,
Gotta set this house in order!
And wait, wait on the Lord!

If ya wanna do His will for you,
Gotta set this house in order!
If ya want your slice of paradise,
Gotta set this house in order!
If you’re feelin’ bad and ya wanna be glad,
Gotta set this house in order!
And wait, wait on the Lord!

If ya wanna feel the Spirit heal,
Gotta set this house in order!
If ya wanna know He loves you so,
Gotta set this house in order!
If ya wanna give out hope and bliss,
Gotta set this house in order!
And wait, wait on the Lord!

“Set this house in order” means putting our consciousness, awareness, focus, attention, and intention in the right place. I.e. on the Highest Good so that we can experience, first in meditation and then throughout all areas of life – with God’s help!, the kingdom of Heaven that Christ proclaimed is within us.

Today’s napowrimo.net prompt was to write a call and response. While I expected a kind of chant, I didn’t expect what some might call a good ole Gospel or revival song! But here it is, in poem form at least. I won’t be surprised if it becomes a song. 🙂

Now only 4 days left in
NaPoWriMo.
It’s been a commitment and a good one!

Life Prayer

I know Life is living
Beyond what I see
And Being is being
Itself within me.
So freeing the freedom
Of all that I Am,
My heartbeat is heartened
With Spirit in hand.

For true gifts are given
To one and to all.
The king of all kingdoms
In greatest and small.
The beautiful beauty
Of peace, hope, and love;
The mind that is mindful
Of goodness above.

And seeing is seeing
One picture of life.
Yet Being is being,
No matter the strife.
And love always loving
Despite every care.
No limits can limit
The Lifeforce we share!

The Real I have realized,
This Truth is for me.
My thanks cannot thank You
For letting me be.
Yet living is living
As long as I might;
Your gifts I am giving
To carry Your Light!

I know Life is living
Beyond what I see
And Being is being
Itself within me.
So freeing the freedom
Of all that I Am,
My heartbeat is heartened
With Spirit in hand.
–And so it is!

Heartsong

Instrument: Caera – Mahogany
Tenor Ukulele in CGDA Tuning

1. Our heart is the center of body and mind,
A chapel where seeking becomes what we find,
The altar connecting the earth and the sky
As One, as One.

2. Our heart is the Light of a being so fair,
A chapel of healing, of comfort and care,
The altar to worship the Lifeforce we share
As One, as One.

3. Our heart is the home of the Spirit that breathes,
A chapel of wisdom we enter in peace,
The altar where burdens are gently released
As One, as One.

4. Our heart is the rhythm of all that we are,
A chapel of Love and the music of stars,
The altar of harmony sung in its parts
As One, as One, as One, as One.
