New Testament Quotations
from New American Standard Bible (NASB)
And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.
–John 1:14
Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.
–Matthew 5:16
When evening came, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed; and He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were ill. This was to fulfill what was spoken through Isaiah the prophet: “HE HIMSELF TOOK OUR INFIRMITIES AND CARRIED AWAY OUR DISEASES.”
–Matthew 8:16-17
Carried Away – Lyrics
Instrument: Tempo – Seagull Excursion Folk Acoustic Guitar
Refrain:
Carried away, carried away!
Bondage and sickness are carried away!
1. Christ is the vessel of one perfect Word,
Speaking away every feeling of hurt;
So we may glorify God and His work,
Sickness is carried away!
Refrain:
2. Christ is the only begotten from God,
Showing compassion in deed and in thought;
So we may know every blessing He brought,
Sickness is carried away!
Refrain:
3. Christ is the vessel that carries us through,
Offering solace for me and for you;
So we may seek Him and live in the truth,
Sickness is carried away!
Refrain: (Twice)
One from an insurance agency
that has no idea what it would be like
to “insure” me anything! 😀
The other was a credit card offer…
“You’re pre-approved!” it proclaimed
in huge letters,
not knowing the slightest thing
about whom it was proclaiming… me! 😀
I got mail today
and it was junk,
double junk even.
It wasn’t bills,
requests for money,
sweepstakes offers,
or loud advertisements.
It was junk
and required no action.
Now if that isn’t something to celebrate,
one of those tiny miracles we too rarely acknowledge,
Then I don’t know what is!
Come on, join me!
Celebrate your junk mail today
and be happy!
If by chance
you didn’t get any snail mail today,
not one single slip of paper,
well, isn’t that a good thing, too?
So celebrate that!

Written for Walt’s celebration prompt at dVerse.
Clouds slung over land
like a prayer shawl before the dawn.
They cling softly to earth’s shoulders,
until sun begins to warm her soul.
Mist slowly slips away
leaves moisture upon her limbs,
like tear drops shed in supplication
seeking grace for this day.
Monday’s quadrille (a poem of exactly 44 words) for dVerse, that virtual pub for poets, where today Kim is tending bar and folks are writing about clouds. Bar opens at 3 PM Boston time. Stop on over and imbibe in more clouds. Photos from a past trip to Alaska.
The reign of our food
is clouded with foes.
I won’t dig into
the cons and cheap pros
or theories that spread
like diseases and woes.
Just one simple question:
Do we care to know
and feed ourselves fully,
so good things may grow?

A Quadrille using the word “cloud” (clouded here) written for dVerse.

1. Sitting on the porch I feel a breeze;
it lifts the heavy burdens from my mind.
Tender as a child, reminding me to smile,
And only a whisper will do.
Only a whisper will do.
Refrain:
2. The sounds of life compete throughout the day,
And booming thoughts take over in the night.
The Spirit soft and low, urges “be still and know,”
And only a whisper will do.
Only a whisper will do.
Refrain:
3. We can make a difference in this life
And come to know the sweetness of the soul.
When we think and speak in peace, we can feel the love increase,
And only a whisper will do.
Only a whisper will do.
Refrain: (Twice)
The Holy Spirit’s whisper will do.
Refrain:
Love is strong enough
And powerful enough; so
Only a whisper will do.
Photos so neatly arranged in albums
tell the story we want to remember
of life, of love, of laughter…
The problem is:
the photos are staged.
“Now look here!”
“Smile!”
“Say cheese!”
“Stop pinching your brother!”
“Don’t make bunny ears behind your sister’s head!”
Staged, I tell you,
more than a play ever was,
is,
or will be.
Because after all,
photos do not tell the truth,
no matter how consciously arranged.
They only tell
the story we want to remember.

Written for dVerse,
not in response to the photos posted, but to the theme of arranging things.
Sometimes I want to go visit the Queen-
A shadow of brighter days.
I realize my life is much more than it seems,
And try to reclaim the ways
That I Am the Queen of my destiny
And Fate is a Choice I make!
