Song of the Sea

Instrument: Brio – Red Cedar Concert Ukulele

1. A carefree place to go and play,
A peaceful spot to watch and pray.
The beach so full of ebb and flow
Reminds us of the Truth we know.

Refrain 1:
And when you touch the shells,
Remember all is well.
O hear the sea inside
And deep within your mind.
It’s flowing free and long and strong,
The oneness of the sea in song.

2. The shells that we collect and keep,
We think are beautiful to see.
So many shapes and colored hues,
But none more beautiful than you.
Refrain 1:

3. And when we go back home to live,
We take along the sandy sieve.
Releasing all the thoughts that bind
To cleansing tides of heart and mind.

Refrain 2:
No need to touch the shells
To know that all is well.
The sea of Life inside
Is calm within your mind.
It’s flowing free and long and strong,
The oneness that is you in song.

Reacting out of Fear

We act out of fear. We do. And the really frightening thing is that we don’t even realize it. It’s normal, knee-jerk, habitual, unconscious, patterned. It’s the snappy comebacks, the words we blurt without thinking, because we’ve blurted them so many times before.

I dare say fear is ritualistic. Religiously we let it rule, just as some of us go to church, kneel, light candles, say prayers, and of course, leave the church with a sigh of relief that now we feel better and can live our lives as we please, in habitual, unconscious fear.

In what situations do you regularly react out of fear? Speaking to children? Commiserating with friends? Arguing with your spouse, partner, co-workers? Tearing down someone’s ideas?

What words do you use?

How do you feel, in your heart, in your gut?

What thoughts are you thinking?

What triggers fear for you?

In recognizing our own personal fearful patterns, we can bring them to the surface. Not to judge or criticize or beat ourselves up for having them! But to heal, replace with positive new patterns, and move on.

As usual I recommend meditation – a few moments spent giving up the personal ego, limited mind that fears, and reclaiming the God Consciousness within you. Meditation itself can be a ritual, and not a positive one, unless you’re fully engaged, with your entire being. This means mind, body, heart, soul. All your wonderful and varied aspects working as one, for at onement with your Spirit (spiritual) Nature.

I could tell you how to meditate. But my version may not work for you. And if it doesn’t, you may fear meditation… It’s not a certain meditative experience you’re after here. It’s a serene sense of knowing, beyond thought, beyond words, beyond feelings and emotions – meeting your Maker, your Self, within You.

And here, there is no fear. When the meditation time is finished, you still contain the Presence. And with awareness, intention, and focus, seeking the Presence on purpose as often as needed, you can respond positively to life situations.

Cookie Song

Why not sit down with some cookies and a cup of coffee, tea or cocoa for this one? Eat, drink, and be meditative. Who says it can’t be fun? 🙂

Instrument: Tempo – Seagull Excursion Folk Acoustic Guitar

1. Baking yummy cookies, takes a lot of time.
Mixing up ingredients, and measuring just right,
Rolling out and thinning dough, and smoothing all the lumps,
Pressing down the cutters, making sure they don’t get stuck.
Refrain:

2. Cookies are a harvest, of patience, love and faith.
Effort is rewarded, with sweets to give and take.
Gobbled up so quickly, or savored nice and slow,
Every single cookie says, we’re made with love to show.
Refrain:

3. Sometimes there are cookies, we say aren’t good enough,
Maybe burnt or broken, maybe hard or rough.
Though every one is different, they are cookies just the same,
Some unique and special treat, a blessing to create.
Refrain:

Like those cookies, each of us is better for the storm.

Refrain:
Eat your cookies, with a thankful heart.
Eat your cookies, let them do their part
To show that love is always there, it’s just in different forms.
It’s mixed and rolled and baked and iced, for cookies soft and warm.
And like those cookies, each of us is better for the storm.

More Great Expectations

The Truth About More
– Continued

TO get all the MORE you’ve been asking God for,
This question is key to supply:
“Now who’ has the floor and who’s keeping the score?”
The answer just might change your life…

The personal mind, you may come to find,
Has strings tightly bound to the earth.
The things it demands into its open hands
Are fine, but in time lose their worth.

One MORE we expect, and another reject
For not painting the picture we hold.
But the color in store could be better than yours;
You will know as the showing unfolds.

So to get all the MORE you’ve been asking God for,
Remember He knows what you need.
And the you on the floor that is keeping the score
Is proven illusion indeed.

To plant the fertile ground.
He knows, He knows
Where water flows
And ready soil abounds.
Refrain:

2. You ask, you ask
And do the task

He lives, He lives
And through you gives
The harvest of good fruit.

You go your way.
O take the path of Light.
And do, and do
Your labor true
With heart and soul and mind.

4. You see, you see
The tiny seed
With miracles inside.
It grows, it grows,
It flow’rs and shows
The blooming of a life.

Come unto Me – Metaphysical Song

The Truth About More

“Please, Sir, I want some more.”

These famous, or is it infamous?, words were spoken by Charles Dickens’ character, Oliver Twist. In this part of the novel, a small boy lives at school and wants more than the supper allowed by the Board.

An uproar ensues, and Oliver will either be hung, or sent off as an apprentice to anyone, of any caliber, who pays 5 pounds for him. The bottom line is that the school would rather be rid of the child than give him more food.

How great it is that our Master always offers more!

Many times we block it, unfortunately. But more is always offered to us by God the Father.

More love, more peace, more happiness, more fulfillment, more joy in carrying out our purpose… More of the best things in life! More is always available to us!

But we must do as Oliver did: We must ask for more!

The Father knows what we need, even before we ask. However, asking opens the universal floodgates fully, releasing a deluge of abundance that we could never imagine or orchestrate on our own!

And when we ask for more, it must be with the expectation, the belief, the knowing and feeling that indeed, more does exist already. And we can have it!

Not have it to hoard, worry over, save, or keep for a rainy day. But to steward, distribute, share, and enjoy. To expand it by adding our energy, and share the expansion with others.

Because, after all, there is always enough, yes, and infinitely more besides!

God did not create us to be poor! Poverty is not a virtue. On the contrary, prosperity is a virtue, especially when the best Master ever is given the credit.

God did not make us to be poor for him. He made us to be rich in all ways, aspects and areas of life!

We can have a consciousness, an attitude, and a mindset of poverty, lack, need, and finite resources. But whom does that serve? It serves only that mindset, making it even more real to us! This is a consciousness of “evil.”

So, what if we were to change our consciousness? Transmute it to abundance, riches, prosperity, possibility, and unlimited resources? Whom would that serve? God, that’s who!

The Universe is constantly changing, evolving and expanding. And who powers it all? God does! So, when we are rich, it is to more fully manifest God’s presence in the world. We serve a great Master who wants each of His creations to be and have more!

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him! Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.
–Matthew 7:7-12 (NKJV)

Now are you ashamed to ask for more?

Self-blessing

This is a self-blessing song, inspired by blessing and Chakra-cleansing rituals. Authors include Z Budapest, Diane Stein, and Dianne Sylvan. But while those are Goddess/woman-centered, this song is for everyone. It is my own interpretation and uses only the same body points as these rituals.

You could do this as a meditation any time, as a song, poem, or however it fits into your spiritual practice. It could be a weekly, monthly, New or Full Moon, or celebration ritual. It is most important to be mindful whenever and wherever you do any meditation – simply performing a ritual or routine practice doesn’t make you more aware in itself.

God Bless this Human Mess

Instrument: Eventide – Mahogany Concert Ukulele

1. “In my father’s house are many mansions.” But who cares
When all you see is heartache
running up and down the creeking stairs?
And nothin’ I can do or say
Takes anybody’s pain away,
But still I’ll do my best and pray:
Refrain:

2. Every soul in torment has a part that knows the Way.
Lead them, Father, lead them inward
To the bright eternal flame.
‘Cause nothin’ I can do or say
Takes anybody’s pain away,
But still I’ll do my best and pray:
Refrain:

3. In my father’s house are many people in disguise.
They are all His own,
Whether they think it’s Hell or Paradise!
And nothin’ I can do or say
Takes anybody’s pain away,
But still I’ll do my best and pray:
Refrain: (Twice)

God bless, o God bless
This human mess!
God bless, o God bless
This human mess!

Refrain:
God bless
Your people in distress.
God bless
The ones who feel repressed.
God bless
The ones who think they’re less than anybody else.
And God bless, o God bless
This human mess!

Listen

Not so much a doing
As an allowing
Let it be
Let it flow around you
Within you
Through you

Take it in
Without thought
Without judgement
With ease

We hear
But rarely listen
It’s no wonder the quiet seems so harsh!
It’s because we don’t know how to respond
How to listen

We hear sound
And inside we feel it
We sense it around us
When we are truly at ease

Active listening?
That speaks judgement
Rat race thoughts
Opinions
Editorializing

What we need is
Passive listening
Flowing effortlessly
To and from us
Within and around us
Over and through us
And the ability to be comfortable with that

The Universe listens
The Earth listens
The Sky listens
God listens
So why can’t we?

Peace
Be still
