Fruit Salad

Happy New Year to each one of you, your friends, family, loved ones, and every person you encounter!

Not all people are easy to get along with, but that’s part of the fruit salad of life! If nothing else, they help us appreciate those fruits–people, events, and situations–we prefer.

I don’t know what this year holds for me, much less for you. One thing I do know, life is a fruitful experience when we give thanks for every aspect, by the Power of the Universe working through us!

Fruit Salad – Lyrics

Interestingly enough, the refrain and each verse is a
Limerick,
creating a song with a light, but important message.

Instrument: Tempo – Seagull Excursion Folk Acoustic Guitar
(capo 3)

Refrain:
O life is a salad of fruit
With cherries and lemons to boot.
The sour is sad,
The bitter is bad,
So in every blessing, salute!

1. Mango and pineapple sing.
Oranges and strawberries ring.
The blueberries burst
With flavor at first,
The sweetness a marvelous thing!
Refrain:

2. Lemons and limes are sublime
And better off one at a time.
They burst with a bang
Of terrible tang,
The power to cleanse is divine!
Refrain:

3. Bananas and apples and grapes,
The fruits that most people will take.
But bursting and blessed
Are all of the rest.
So open on up and partake!
Refrain: (Twice)

‘Cause life is a salad of fruit!

Top 5 Things I Learned from Writing Christmas Cards

This post is a big deal, not because my hand hurts from writing, but because this is the first year I’ve given Christmas cards. I know some people and families who do it every year; I’ve even received some of these cards myself. But I’ve never taken the time to choose them, write them, seal them snuggly in envelopes, put names on them, and send them out into the world to bless others. After this experience I have only one question… Why did I wait so long?

Top 5 Things I Learned from Writing Christmas Cards

5. I have more friends than I thought! And not just a few–with each card written, I thought of another one I could have written.

4. The message sent through your heart and hands is always just the right one.

3. You, unwrapped, unfiltered, undivided, are always the greatest gift!

2. Peace is tangible: You touch it every time you touch someone else.

1. The cost is minimal, while the love is priceless!

So write your Christmas or other holiday (or no holiday!) cards with joy, because that joy will return to sender many times over!

God bless us!

This does not sound like a Christmas song. Even people surrounded by family and others can feel most isolated at this time of year. And if my prayer list is any indication, people want to feel some glimmer of hope and blessings, now more than ever! That’s why this isn’t a Christmas song, and why most of my holiday songs are more generic–because it’s not only on a holiday that we long to experience something higher than our human thoughts and circumstances! This longing is universal, and Higher Consciousness is, too! And so, may blessings be upon you, now and always!

Numbers 6:24-26 (NKJV)

“The Lord bless you and keep you;
The Lord make His face shine upon you,
And be gracious to you;
The Lord lift up His countenance upon you,
And give you peace.”

Blessings Be upon You – Lyrics

Instrument: Tempo – Seagull Excursion Folk Acoustic Guitar

1. When times are dark and dreary
And you feel worn and weary,
I ask that blessings be upon you.
Refrain:

2. When every wish you’ve wanted
Is like a haunting hunter,
I ask that blessings be upon you.
Refrain:

3. When careless words are working
To keep you hard and hurting,
I ask that blessings be upon you.
Refrain: (Twice)

May the Lord give you peace!

Refrain:
The Lord bless you and keep you
And shine His face upon you.
The Lord be gracious unto you
And give you peace.
The Lord give you peace!

Unseen

My face is not made up,
but is bright, expressive, and usually smiling.
My hair isn’t fancy,
but soft, thick, and dare I say attractive?
My voice is the best,
steady and warm,
but the question is…
How does it hide
the scars inside?

A Quadrille in response to De’s “scar” prompt at

I believe the deepest scars are invisible, and that’s why they are scars–because we don’t like to acknowledge them.

Garden Growing

I’ve always wanted a garden,
But I fear my thumbs are black,
Coated in sadness and sorrow,
The only things that grow for me.

I’ve always wanted a garden,
But I gave up long ago,
Coated in unfulfilled wishes,
The only fruit on barren trees.

I’ve always wanted a garden,
And I tried to plant before,
Coated in dreams and desires,
That only others brought to life.

I’ve always wanted a garden,
But I’m not the child I was,
Coated in sadness and sorrow,
The only reason nothing grows!

I’ve always wanted a garden,
And I know my thumbs are green,
Coated in wishes and hopes and dreams,
My garden is a fruitful scene!

My response to Kim’s Tuesday Poetics prompt at
dVerse.

Whether growing a garden or anything else, the only mistake is not to try!

My mother and grandmother each kept a garden as long as they could – flowers, vegetables, herbs, berries and strawberries, grape vines, pear trees, and maybe more I don’t remember. I do remember picking beans, onions, and other vegetables, but whether it was spoken or not, I always felt like I was all black thumbs next to their green ones.

It seems too late in a way, but I’ve come to appreciate the value of gardening, especially growing produce to brighten your table and health. Yet I’ve been too overwhelmed to garden, knowing I couldn’t keep the extensive gardens my mother and grandmother had.

Suddenly (it wasn’t, but feels like it was) I’ve blown off all these expectations. To that I can only, honestly say, “Thank God!” I’ll start small with some herb pots, and I might even lose some. But the only way I can really fail, is if I never try!

Happy gardening, whether it’s plants or the garden of thoughts and beliefs we so often neglect!

Masterpiece

This is a good song for any time of year, but especially just after the U.S. presidential election and Veterans/armistice Day!

Instruments: Egg shaker, zills (finger cymbals)

1. United we stand
And reach out our hands
In circles that never cease.
As energy spreads
All beings are fed.
So may we be linked in peace!

2. With every demand,
We try to expand,
So differences may decrease.
But look on ahead
With caring instead,
For love is the bond that frees!

3. O reach out your hand
And joyfully stand
In making a masterpiece!
Your heart and your head,
In unity fed,
Encircle the soul of peace!

Cutting Edge

Instrument: Brio – Red Cedar Concert Ukulele

1. So many rules to follow in this life,
At work and school and in the places
Where we sleep at night.
And as we try obeying all the rules,
Let’s take the time to realize
The Principle of Truth!
Refrain:

2. Each lifetime is a classroom or a stage
With all the props and prizes
As rewards if we behave.
And as we do our best to play the part,
Let’s never miss the bliss of being
Who we are at heart!
Refrain:

And the whisp’ring hopes convey
There is a better way!
So listen to the Spirit
As you meditate and pray!
Refrain:

3. We see our health as anything but strong,
The treatments running rampant
Like the litany of wrongs.
And as we ask the questions for a cure,
Let’s bring to mind the One Divine
Who healed us all before!
Refrain:

And when the Spirit speaks, oh may we hear!

Refrain:
‘Cause We’re living on the cutting edge of Consciousness,
Where we can seek and find our purpose here.
The only thing to do,
It’s simple but it’s true,
Is keep our mind and body pathways clear
And do the Will of Spirit in good cheer!

It Ain’t Me

“It ain’t me you’re lookin’ for,”*
No matter what you say.
You’re lookin’ for an actor’s part
I’m not equipped to play.

“It ain’t me you’re lookin’ for”
In everything you do.
You’re lookin’ for distractions brief
TO fill the void in you.

“It ain’t me you’re lookin’ for,”
Despite your whirling mind.
You’re lookin’ for the brilliant Light:
Your soul’s eternal shine!

“It Ain’t Me Babe” by Bob Dylan.

You and me in Love.
Through our lives we shine his Light
On Earth from Heav’n above.

Both a bless’d part.
We remind each other
Love is where we end and start.
May we

3. Some days our eyes are foggy
With reflections sad and pale.
In quiet mind we find
The Spirit’s Love that lifts the veil.
So we

See through the windows of the eyes
Into the waters of the soul,
Reflecting every being pure and whole.

God brought us together,
Pure and whole.

Into the waters of the soul,
Reflecting a being pure and whole.
